I've been a Greetings & Readings fan since before they moved to Hunt Valley and the store keeps getting better and better. They have an amazing selection of cards, books, gifts (including Vera Bradley, Brighton, Yankee Candle and more) and a wide variety of Ravens and Orioles gear. They often have local authors visit to sign their books, so the bibliophile in me is happy. They will even give you a free gift box and bow for your purchase, which is always a benefit for those last-minute purchases!
While the selection was wonderful, the customer service/interaction was horrible and directly discriminatory. My daughter and I visited the store the afternoon of March 3, 2017 after receiving a lovely spa in the area, we went in the store in search of particular item and browse (I've always been a huge fan of Greetings & Readings, love to browse all the really neat gifts) We both noticed that every isle we went down a sales woman (different ones) would come over to "straighten" something in the area we were in, this happened the entire time we were there. I found it very odd that as soon as we walked toward the escalator (after the purchase) the sales lady went back behind the counter. NO ONE went over to the group of school girls gathered around one of the rotating merchandise displays ...even though we made a purchase, a very small purchase I would have made a much larger purchase because I loved the selection of the wine glasses by Lolita and the Alex & Ani braclets. which I collect. As I am sure me not spending my projected $200 is not going to make or break Greetings & Readings the entire situation made me feel very uncomfortable, unwanted and stereotyped. I felt the need to share with the customers reviewing this and potentially going to spend their hard earned dollars at this location what I experienced.
I am posting a bad review of G & R. I was simply trying ro return a $25 christmas ornament that someone already had. It was Dec 23 and we bought it a week ago. Apparently after I stood there for five minutes staring at six sloppy looking employees wrapping presents one looked up and asked what I needed. I said I had a return. She mumbled, "Is anyone doing returns?" Then they all went back to work. Finally another woman from the same group asked me two minutes later what I needed. I told her a return again. Another woman from the group looked up and said they do not return holiday merchandise. Another one stated there are signs at the register. The reciept states 30 days. The lazy woman asked another woman who agreed they could not take it back. I think I should have at least gotten an exchange. Now I have a useless ornament that I will hopefully be able to regift. I think they should print this ridiculous policy on the receipt or say something at time of purchase. Wasted gas, money and time.

My husband and I visited this establishment on our anniversary since there is a large selection of items including, Vera Bradley which I love. Immediately walking into this establishment I felt as though I had committed a crime. Every selection my husband and I looked at, every aisle we turned down there was some following us! We even went to the Biblical section in order to purchase a new devotional and there someone was literally lurking. I can appreciate that it may be the company's policy to distribute it's workers throughout the store as it is a fairly large establishment; HOWEVER, when there are several other people shopping and walking around the establish that look gravely different than myself and my husband it becomes extremely noticeable that you are being singled out and discriminated against. The last straw was when I observed a sales lady pick up the telephone which had not rang, put it to her ear and walked around my husband and I as if we were thieves whom she could not wait to catch in the act of celebrating 8 years of marriage. I would never buy anything from this establishment, but I will go back to see if this is a regular occurrence and will move through the chain of administration if and when it does occur again!
the best bookstore &The Baltimore area been doing business with them for over 20years love them 10/14/17
